Canadian business leaders welcome the federal government’s proposed Digital Charter Implementation Act
Statement by Goldy Hyder, President and CEO of the Business Council of Canada:
The federal government’s proposed Digital Charter Implementation Act sets out clear rules to protect consumers, promote innovation, and strengthen Canadians’ confidence in the emerging digital economy. As highlighted in our recent report, “Powering A Strong Recovery: An Economic Growth Plan For Canada,” data is driving innovation in Canada and around the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has only accelerated a shift to a more digital way of living, working and doing business.
Canadian business leaders thank Minister Bains for his leadership on this file and for focusing on three priorities we see as critical: protecting Canadians’ privacy, supporting a competitive marketplace, and building data infrastructure. We look forward to continuing to work with the federal government to advance those goals.
